GET TO KNOW ME I’m Caroline, the author and photographer behind this blog! |
I hope you enjoyed my blog, "Behind the Masks," I had tons of fun creating it. I just wanted to take this opportunity to let y'all know a little more about me as well as my connection to Mardi Gras and the different aspects and celebrations of it in different cultures!

I spent most of my young adult life in Lafayette, Louisiana, where I lived until 2011. Growing up in South Louisiana, I was no stranger to the celebration of Mardi Gras. I knew all about the floats and the beads, the bright colors and fun costumes, and the loud and sometimes dangerous atmosphere that accompanied it all. It was not until I moved a little further South to Eunice, Louisiana for high school, however, that I was exposed to the true cajun traditions of Courir de Mardi Gras.
When my family made the move to Eunice from Lafayette, I was amazed by how incredibly different the entire environment was from the one I was used to. I could not understand how these seemingly insane people with thick Cajun accents and careers that did not span far beyond rice or crawfish farming had been here the whole time and I had no idea.
